(2,4,5-TRICHLOROPHENOXY) ACETIC ACID ICSC: 0075
IMPORTANT DATA
PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
WHITE CRYSTALLINE POWDER

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating and on burning producing toxic and corrosive gases including phosgene (see ICSC0007) and hydrogen chloride (see ICSC0163). The solution in water is a weak acid.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 10 mg/m as TWA; A4 (not classifiable as a human carcinogen); (ACGIH 2005).
MAK: (Inhalable fraction) 10 mg/m; Peak limitation category: II(2); skin absorption (H); Pregnancy risk group: C; (DFG 2004).
ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful concentration of airborne particles can be reached quickly on spraying or when dispersed, especially if powdered.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the eyes and the respiratory tract.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes toxicity to human reproduction or development. See Notes.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Decomposes below boiling point
Melting point: 153-158C
Density: 1.80 g/cm
Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 25C: 0.03
Vapour pressure, Pa at 25C: negligible
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 4
ENVIRONMENTAL DATA
The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. This substance does enter the environment under normal use. Great care, however, should be given to avoid any additional release, e.g. through inappropriate disposal.
NOTES
Temperature of decomposition unknown in literature. Commercial products may contain toxic dioxin (see ICSC 1467 2,3,7,8-TCDD). If the substance is formulated with solvent(s) also consult the card(s) (ICSC) of the solvent(s). Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties. The recommendations on this card also apply to salts of 2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid. Esterone 245, Trioxone and Weedone are trade names.
